About the workshop

Beginner group
For beginners (never stood on hands before) to a 8–10s freestanding handstand.

The beginners group is focused on the basics to learn a two arm handstand. No previous experience with handbalancing is needed.

The primary focus is to develop an understanding of the handstand technique and how to practice it efficiently. The goal is to teach the students how to train effectively by themselves with practical progressions and mindset.
This workshop is perfect for those who can not yet do a handstand and for those who can balance a little bit, but need better technique and understanding.
Specific strength, flexibility, shoulder, elbow and wrist preparation drills will also be covered in detail to provide for a safe and enjoyable learning process.
Intermediate/advanced group
For those who can balance a consistent 10+ seconds freestanding handstand, kick up to handstand and some experience with the tuck handstand

This category includes those working on the freestanding handstand, different handstand shapes, entries and development towards the one arm handstand.

Technical work will be combined with strategies for conditioning specifically towards handbalancing. Sharpening alignment, various leg positions, practice towards press to handstand and the preparation needed for one arm handstands will be covered.

This workshop suits anyone that are looking to develop the basics towards a more refined handstand practice.
About Mikael Kristiansen
Mikael Kristiansen is a circus artist educated at DOCH, Stockholm, who has been working internationally as a teacher and performer for over 15 years.

As a teacher, Mikael focuses on the relationship between biomechanics, physics and technique. He aspires to cultivate both the physical and the mental parts of handbalancing for a deeper understanding of the practice

While staying true to efficiency and technique, his research into handbalancing training is directed towards individual differences both when it comes to bodies and learning strategies.

«As we adapt the body to the technique we also need to consider when its appropriate to adapt the technique to the body»
